Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a gold Philippine sunburst surmounted by two gold handled bayonets with white blades chevronwise above a blue fleur-de-lis, at base, between the bayonet grips a semi-circular blue scroll inscribed "FORWARD" in gold letters.

Symbolism
The fleur-de-lis represents the unit's four campaigns in Europe during World War I. The Philippine sunburst symbolizes the organization's four campaigns in the Pacific and the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation during World War II.  The color blue is used to represent the unit's two United States Presidential Unit Citations, World War II.  The color blue, with the bayonets, also alludes to Infantry.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 8 October 1976.  It was cancelled on 1 April 1998.  The insignia was reinstated with the description updated, effective 1 September 2003.
